ODP Chair Liz Walters statement: Despite Governor Mike DeWine (R) calling a special session of the state legislature, we have no confidence that a clean bill will be produced to get the President on the ballot. Ensuring ballot access for President Biden is just too important to leave it in the dysfunctional hands of the Ohio GOP. Today the DNC announced plans to certify President Biden and Vice President Harris through an internal party process. DNC Chairman Jaime Harrison has our full support in this effort, and we will continue to work closely with our colleagues at the DNC and on the Biden Campaign in the weeks ahead.

How are issues put on the ballot? What issues may be on the ballot? Who determines what issues are on ballot?

Several requirements must be met before a proposed statewide issue can be placed on the ballot. Links explaining those procedures can be found here. The Ohio Ballot Board’s role in the process is first to determine whether the petition language contains a single issue and secondly, to prescribe the official ballot language and any missing arguments for each statewide issue.

Citizens Not Politicians – Stop Gerrymandering in Ohio

Politicians are failing us, ignoring constitutional standards for fair maps and ignoring demands from voters to end their gerrymandering ways. Ohio voters overwhelmingly approved state legislative redistricting reform in 2015 and congressional redistricting reform in 2018. Both reforms won with well over 70% of the vote and passed in all 88 Ohio counties. Today, Ohioans still don’t have fair districts.

YES! The Right to Reproductive Freedom with Protections for Health and Safety

Despite the Ohio Ballot Board, led by Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose (R), rewriting of the proposed amendment that was Issue 1 on the General Election Ballot, Issue 1 won overwhelmingly statewide – 56.62% YES and 43.38% NO. In Erie County, Issue 1 passed by 56.93% YES and 43.07% NO. Thank You all Ohioans! You saw through the misleading, incorrect information and outright lies that purposefully was intended to confuse voters by leaving out all the information regarding contraception, fertility treatment, continuing one’s own pregnancy and miscarriage care. LaRose focused on abortion and continues to lie about the medical procedure being used to kill babies right up to delivery.

National & Ohio GOP lawmakers don’t govern, they just parade hate filled extremism

Embarrassing. Infuriating. Oppressing. Take your pick. They all describe the performative do-nothings in Columbus and Washington. Dodgy politicians who aspire not to serve the greater good but to grandstand in the extreme for notoriety. It’s not for nothing that Ohio’s General Assembly and the U.S. House of Representatives (both under the loosely defined management of MAGA Republicans) were historically unproductive last year in terms of lawmaking.
