FitzGerald Campaign Press Secretary Lauren Hitt released the following statement on the repeal of the Mid-Biennium Review amendment that would have cut local government funding by 10 percent for any county that mailed absentee ballots to their residents.
“We’re glad the Governor followed Ed FitzGerald’s call to repeal this illegal abuse of power to enforce voter suppression laws, and we hope he’ll stand with us in ensuring every County has the ability to send absentee ballots to their residents independent of the Secretary of State.”

4/7/2014: Amendment Announced |
FitzGerald releases statement on amendment “The lengths the Republican leadership will go to prevent their fellow Ohioans from voting is astounding. The fact is they just can’t help themselves. Any opportunity to make voting more difficult for the poor, seniors, African Americans and working Ohioans is consistently and enthusiastically embraced by the Republicans in the General Assembly. And their plan to now punish the residents of communities who simply want to make voting easier is not only politics at its worst, it is a direct attack on how local governments pay for police, fire and other vital services. I would say they should be ashamed of their behavior but it is clear they have no shame.”
