Politicians are failing us, ignoring constitutional standards for fair maps and ignoring demands from voters to end their gerrymandering ways. Ohio voters overwhelmingly approved state legislative redistricting reform in 2015 and congressional redistricting reform in 2018. Both reforms won with well over 70% of the vote and passed in all 88 Ohio counties. Today, Ohioans still don’t have fair districts.
YOU DID IT! Democracy Wins! Ohioans rejected and trounced the concept of minority rule over the majority. Unofficial results: NO – 1,744,094 – 57.01%; YES – 1,315,346 – 42.99%. This was an historic turnout for an August Special Election! Thank You to everyone who wrote postcards, donated stamps, made calls, knocked on doors, posted yard signs, made donations and talked to family and friends to get out the vote! Every vote was – and is – important!
The Democratic National Convention will take place August 19-22, 2024. It is expected to draw 5,000 to 7,000 delegates and alternates and attract up to 50,000 visitors to Chicago. The United Center will be site of evening events — the main site of the 1996 Democratic convention in Chicago and the largest arena in North America; daytime business will be conducted at the McCormick Place Convention Center, the location of the 2012 NATO Summit.
DeWine signed HB458 into law triggering a major overhaul of state election laws that will require voters to present a photo ID at the polls. Under the new law, voters must present a photo ID when they cast their ballot in person, although the ID doesn’t need to have their current address on it. Qualifying IDs include an Ohio driver’s license, state ID, U.S. passport, passport card, military ID or interim identification issued by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Voters could previously use alternative forms of identification at the polls, such as utility bills or bank statements that included their new address.
