Democratic candidate for State Auditor John Patrick Carney released the following statement on the Ohio House GOP’s voter-suppression amendment to the Mid-Biennium Review. Under the amendment, any county that mails out absentee ballots to its residents would have its local government funds cut by ten percent.
“The Republican leadership’s threat to slash funding to counties wishing to encourage people to vote is a disservice to every Ohioan. Equal access to the ballot is crucial for a successful democracy. What does it say of our values and dedication to the American Dream when one party wants to punish communities that work to promote equal voting access? This amendment is the very kind of power abuse I will fight to stop as State Auditor.”
