Gov. John Kasich has spent more than 177 days out of state — that’s a figure from last month, it’s certainly gone up since then — and he’s spent more than $350,000 of Ohioans’ tax dollars on security for out-of-state travel to bolster his failing presidential run.
He’s still trailing Marco Rubio in the delegate count, even though Rubio suspended his campaign in March.
And folks here in Ohio are starting to notice and wonder why they’re footing the bill for a candidate with no mathematical chance of winning the nomination.
PolitiFact Ohio did an analysis of how much Kasich’s presidential ambitions are costing Ohio taxpayers and found that it’s closing in on nearly $500,000 spent — and he’s still spending away on the campaign trail.
WSYX-TV noted, “Some are questioning whether the expense of protecting Kasich on the campaign trail is worth it. The governor still trails Marco Rubio who left the race more than a month ago. Kasich was mathematically eliminated from winning the nomination on the first ballot weeks ago.”
The Democratic National Committee crunched the numbers and found exactly ZERO reasons for Kasich to still be in the GOP race.
